TRANSITION IS GOOD IF YOU LET IT BE

Today welcome life’s transitions. You don’t have to love them all simply welcome them all and you will be transformed.

Transitions happen all around us every day. Hour to hour minute to minute we move from one event of the day to the next with a mix of emotion: good, bad and indifferent. Sometimes we transition smoothly, gracefully and with confidence whether we know the transition is coming or not. We have the tools and the wear with all to move in and out of these moments freely, painlessly. We plan a move, a new career, new marriage or retirement consciously and deliberately. It’s good stuff and shifts like these bring positive encouraging energy into our lives. Change, when we are in control, is easily digestible until out of the blue comes something unbelievable and unexpected and then it just is not easy to embrace. Transition can force its way upon us like a thief, robbing us of our peace. It could be a sudden move, a career that abruptly ends, a marriage that rocks and rolls. A beautiful life is taken way too soon. Health and vitality become compromised. These are not parts of our plan and we find ourselves stuck in the unfairness and mystery of it. We resist and we resent.

Like faithful committed architects we carefully design and plan the spaces we exist in. This is good to do. We make sure that every organic sequence that could possibly occur falls perfectly into place or so we hope. Our plans inspire us and motivate us. They keep us keenly engaged in the world around us. Yet we can almost count on some of the best laid plans and designs being blown away and there we are with our creative efforts and expectations windswept. This kind of unforeseen suffering truly refines us, though hard as ever to see in the moment and even harder to bear. The fires and winds of life are meant to expand and broaden who we are in the world. It can be hard to imagine but they do every time when we let them. Understanding is sure to develop; compassion will abound and we will know we have been transformed. Something shifts deep in our soul; our world looks different because it is. The spaces we so carefully designed become brighter and more colorful. If we can look through it all with the most loving of lens it is possible to move mindfully and intentionally through the unexpected fear, anxiety, uncertainty and great sorrow and when we finally get to the other side we realize we actually love who we have become through it all.  Quiet your heart; still your mind and take a comfortable seat and know that life’s incredible ride will be nourishing and plentiful.

Today welcome life’s transitions. You don’t have to love them all simply welcome them all and you will be transformed.
