WISDOM LIES IN THE PEAKS AND VALLEYS

Today mindfully harness the wisdom that lies deep within you, soon courage and confidence will grow.

It is not enough to sit quietly in prayer and meditation and pray for something to become a reality in our lives. It takes a committed pursuit to making it a reality. I don’t mean a pursuit that forces and pushes a dream into existence. Harnessing that big bold dream is vital to living a full life - it’s super important. Making your way toward the thing you want most in life is also meant to be an active journey - it’s a flow like a river. It is not static and passive although there are times it feels that way. There are also times being active in the journey feels like you are going nowhere. But you are really here now doing what you are supposed to do. There might be periods when an obstacle presents itself along the way and it feels so enormous you want to give up. There are stretches when you know an obstacle is coming and it consumes you so much so that the obstacle blinds you and discourages you. Please don’t stop, keep going; keep building your ability to move toward what you are after. Life is a journey and every step along the way matters.

For several years I had a most amazing walk I would go on through the woods along the Willamette River. Almost daily, rain or shine I was out there. When I stayed mindfully present the natural beauty and wild life nourished every part of my being. Sometimes I made the walk a four-mile adventure and sometimes I only had time and energy for one mile. At the end of the loop there was a steep hill, perhaps 900 feet, not so terribly long but long enough and steep enough to get my attention. Over time walking steadily up the hill did get physically easier however over the same time I began to notice that getting up that darned hill became something I concentrated on well before I even got to it, so much so, that I paid little notice to my beautiful surroundings. I’d think ‘the hill, I can’t do it today’ ‘the hill, maybe I will go a different way’, ‘the hill, it is so hard’, ‘here comes the hill’. The hill got in my way before I even took one step up it. What I missed along the way with my focus on this future obstacle I’ll never really know? It takes determination to quietly walk through the world. Mindfully flowing through the peaks and valleys takes concentration and commitment. Keep a steady course and know there is a lovely magic in the hills of our lives, a magic where deep wisdom resides. Quiet your heart and continue on your journey present, courageous and confident knowing you truly have exactly what it takes to get there no matter what it is you face on the way.
